Over 102,000 children starting primary school in England are at risk of catching measles With millions of children across the country going back to school this week, NHS England is urging parents to check that their children are up to date with their MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccinations in the wake of measles cases rising across the country. Childhood vaccination rates have fallen over the past ten years and this week statistics show that over 102,000 children aged four and five years old starting in reception are not protected against catching measles, mumps and rubella. Measles is highly infectious and if left unvaccinated nine out of ten children in a classroom can catch the disease if just one child is infectious. If you are unsure if you or your child are up to date, check your child's red book or GP records and make an appointment to catch up any missed doses. General Advice

School Nurse

The School Nursing service is continuing to be available to all the schools within the borough of Sutton during this difficult time for any advice and support you may need for the children and young people in your care.  There are a number of actions we are taking to try to help young people with their current period of isolation to promote their health needs.

We are currently operating a Duty Call line which is monitored daily by a School Nurse for all parents/carers / young people in the borough. The contact number for this is: 020 8770 5409   We are also going to be introducing a direct telephone line and an email address which will be for young people only (for office hours use) and which should be available in the next few days. Details of these will be forwarded to you as soon as they are available.

Also within the next week we hope to be starting an Instagram page for Sutton School Nursing which will be updated regularly with public health information and health updates for young people. This will be managed by Public Health Sutton. We are currently looking into the possibility of a Q and A page within Instagram for young people to interact directly with us.

This site will also offer signposting to available resources and local/national services.   The team will continue to take measures as appropriate to support the health and well-being of the 5-19 age group within Sutton and will prioritise safeguarding as usual within the service, please do not hesitate to contact us.

To get in touch call: 020 8770 5409.
